The Secret Excuse for My Tragic Knee Injury

Here’s why your knee is always on your mind…

It’s because you haven’t gotten to the core of why you keep re-injuring it.

This was a HUGE AH-HA when I figured this one out!

I had this pattern of pushing myself…

It was an internal drive to do more and be more than everyone else.

I had to prove to myself and the world that “I could do it!”

What ever “IT” was…

Lifting heavier weights…
Running further…
Biking further…
Training longer…
Throwing more people in Judo competitions…
Traveling further…
You name…

if I got it in my head I was going to push myself as hard and as long as I could to get “there.”

But guess what?

I ignored my body in the process…

I ignored the signals it was giving me.

I blew past all the “red flags” it was telling me.

To take a break.

I really just wanted to give myself permission to…

R.E.S.T.

I just wanted one day to get up in the morning and NOT feel like I needed to push myself harder and further than I did the day before.

Just like when you ignore the check engine light on your car long enough.

Something breaks down…

For me it was my knee.

A very humbling experience and my life’s greatest lesson so far.

I tried for a while to ignore my knee after the injury but the damage was already done.

It wasn’t until I accepted where I was at that the situation with my knee started to improve.

Sort of like an alcoholic finally admitting they have a drinking problem.

This is a hard pill to swallow…

But once you get that pill down, you can finally begin to move forward.

I’m not saying my underlying reason is the same as your underlying reason you’re not out of pain yet.

What I am saying is accepting that your knee is really NOT getting better or closer to the life that you want to live is the first step. 

The second step is beginning to work in “The Comfort Zone”
